wow! we're alr in friday! days just seems to pass lk VAVAVOOM!although this had been a fast week for me, it may have been a long dreading week for many others. the Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar, and earthquake in China had took away thousands of lives. and its just within minutes in a fortnight. and up till today, the figures are increasing... thru these natural disasters, the world saw for itself the unity, aid, and the number of ppl who are willing to lend a helping hand, whether is it thru donating money, necessities, or effort. it came across to me that the disasters had indeed brought many ppl together to help when i watched the news yest on channel 8. there was a scene where the soldiers managed to rescue an old man frm the collapse of the hospital. when the man was rescued out, the soldiers expressed not only relief, but smiles on their face had been touching and definitely motivating. then, there was a girl who was trapped in a collapse building for 56hrs. her brother and many ppl continuously talked to her to keep her awake as the rest tried to make space for her to be carried onto ground. and it happened that she turned 20 on the day she's rescued. so all the soldiers sang a birthday song for her as they carried her on a stretcher. i thot that was a very very touching scene. there are continuously many ppl who self-volunteered themselves to go to the earthquake hit areas to help. and despite the dead atmosphere in the earthquake hit areas, the soldiers are actually doing their best to rescue as many as they can, although they may have been totally devastated and affected by all the deaths. and all these actually shows the unity of the Chinese in this episode of disaster. then again, the rumours of the Myanmar authorities diverting some resources from cyclone victims to the voting/military propaganda effort, which was held in all but the hardest hit areas, re-branding foreign aid with the names of high-ranking generals before being distributed, seizing food aid from the U.N., barring aid workers from distributing the supplies themselves, and keeping good food for themselves while handing out bad food and supplies to ordinary Burmese have shown the other side of human kind. while ppl outside the country are trying their very best to enter the country to help, sending money, necessities to aid the relief and the ppl, the authorities within the country itself are actually MAKING USE of other's sympathy for the benefits of themselves! these disasters that happened within a fortnight had taken away many lives, and left many ppl homeless, helpless, and alone. it had also shown the world the unity and cruelty of human kind. using illustrations from China and Myanmar doesn't show that who is kind, or who is cruel. but it just happened that these events highlight the good and bad of human kind. and there is definitely two side to a coin. so we can't put any definitely conclusions to either one. i'll blog about my experiences at work and meeting ppl in the working society the next time! till then, enjoy ur weekend, and HAPPY VESAK DAY! let's pray for peace on earth, and hope that many ppl's sufferings in these episodes of disasters can be lightened. ♥ shanjoo
